I'm sure most of the people who read this blog already know what's going on, but just in case, here's what's up.

Gustav. Gustav. Gustav.

Thank you, goodnight!

That's pretty much everything I've dealt with the past few days. I took my first shower in three days this morning, it was cold, but I don't care.

I'm living at the Courier office right now. They have a generator, a little bit of A/C, running water... pretty much everything my house doesn't have.

And, my blog has moved for the time being to the courier website. You can see it here. And my photos are up there as well. (I don't know why there's a video on top of that page... but that's where my galleries are)

I'll try to post on this blog too, but things get kind of crazy during storm coverage.

My area.

This is my little spot inside the Comet newsroom.
I'm hitting the sack now. What I'm excited about is that it's not just a 360 view of the world from one vantage point. It allows you to walk around a subject, or walk down a path or zoom in on one thing to show it's detail... etc.

But for now, here's a view of the Courier Parking Lot.

(Oh, and sorry, it can only be viewed on a PC... which I'm not to happy to admit, but not much I can do about it.)

Why I love the olympics

I'm about to hit the sack, and I'm batteling a cold, but I thought I'd
say why I love the olympics...
The upsets.
I don't know much about swimmig, but it's the olympics so it doesn't
matter. You watch any sport that's on tv. Two weeks of constant sports.
I was watching swimming tonight and NBC made note (a lot) about how
the French 4x100 relay team talked some trash towards the USA team.
Saying something along the lines of how they're going to "smash" the
Americans.
The guys on TV were saying how the French were favored to win the
4x100. Even during the race they were saying "can the US hold on for
silver"
Then the US edged the French by .08 seconds for the gold. And the US
swimmers go crazy.
That's how wheaties boxes are made.
I love that kind of comeback. The 1980 hockey win over Russia. Keri
schrug with her hurt ankle vault. Paul Hamm in 2004 with his all-
around victory in gymnastics. Sarah something in figure skating a
while ago.
"rudy" moments if you will.
I get all choaked up watching the reactions of those accomplishments.
Usually each olympics has at least one moment like that. So hopefully,
since the game just started, we'll have a few more.
The closest I've come to this feeling is when I won a basket of cheese
and chocolate at a silent auction. My bid of 25 bucks held up.
Tomorrow I'll post about the rest of the Pittsburgh trip, geekfest and
this weekends conference.

Trade show

Taking a break between speakers. I don't think I've ever left a workshop more inspired.

I planned on posting some more Pittsburgh stuff

I planned on posting some "real camera" pictures from Geekfest

But I had a little run-in with Tropical Storm Edouard yesterday that kind of put a kink in my plans.

So I'm going to skip Pittsburgh and Geekfest stuff for now and show you what Edouard did.

Robert Zullo and I headed down the bayou yesterday to see what Edouard was up too. It wasn't much. Some nice wind, a little rain, but that's about it.

But, the storm surge started pushing water up into Terrebonne. Keep in mind, the storm was about 100 miles south of Houma, and it still pushed about two feet of water into places in Southern Terrebonne. That's pretty scary. Just imagine if we get hit by a big storm. They'll be nothing left.

We hung out with some fishermen on Island Road. We continued down the road towards the island until we realized water was really starting to go across the road and we didn't want to be stuck on the Island all night.

So we headed to Chauvin where we met quite an intersting family.

We found two kids swimming in the flood waters outside their home. I started to take pictures and asked if a parent was home.

Their mother came outside, walked down the steps and just splashed into the water like it wasen't even there. She was covered in tattoos, and visibly drunk. Quite the charactor.

So we hung out there for a while. Here's my favorite picture from there (and from the entire day for that matter)

I forgot to bring my other photos home with me, so if you want to see more, I posted a photo gallery online.

We also produced a video. You'll get a chance to meet the mother. We only had one or two usable quotes from her because she was ether cursing up a storm, or too drunk to understand.

And I promised Misty I'd blog about a doodle she made this weekend. I must admit, it's a pretty sweet doodle. I told her it reminded me of Cat in the Hat. Interesting side note... this doodle was made on the back of a post card given to us by a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Preston Gannaway. She did an awesome photo story that can be seen here.

Hopefully things will slow down a bit later this week so I can post some more stuff from the past two weekends. Actually, I almost have to get that stuff posted because we're spending this weekend in New Orleans attending the Women in Photojournalism workshop.
